Dr Nalau is a climate adaptation scientist based at Cities Research Institute, Griffith University. Her research focuses on understanding how, why and when people make decisions to adapt to climate change, and examines which core assumptions can enable us to better adapt to climate change. She is a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment report in Working Group II (Chapter 15 Small Islands), an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow (2019-2022), Managing Editor for the Journal of Climate Risk Management, and Science Committee Member of World Adaptation Science Program, and a 2020 Queensland Young Tall Poppy Science Award winner. She is passionate about the roles of leadership development and innovation in progressing global adaptation science and shares her thoughts on a weekly blog at www.johannanalau.com
