Climate Change is one the leading concerns facing the Earth (yea... that did not just disappear because we're all in the middle of a pandemic).
Last Summer, Australia witnessed the impacts of this global threat with a prolonged period of intense bushfires that devastated many areas. This has given us a glimpse of what lies ahead for our country- so what can we do about it?
This year at #Skepticon2020 we welcome four scientists and researchers who work in the fields of climate change, planning and adaptation to our Climate Change Panel.
Dr Johanna Nalau is a climate adaptation scientist based at Cities Research Institute, Griffith University. Her research focuses on understanding how, why and when people make decisions to adapt to climate change.
Dr Martin Rice is Head of Research for the Climate Council and previously the Co-ordinator of the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) in Paris, France.
Associate Professor Michael Howes is the Head of the Environmental Planning and Management Discipline at Griffith University. He is also an adaptation science researcher with the Cities Research Institute and is the Program Director for the Master of Climate Change Adaptation.
Dr Sarah Boulter is a senior research fellow with the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility (NCCARF) involved in research, development and synthesis of knowledge to support adaptation planning and management across all sectors, particularly in extreme weather events.
Together, Johanna, Martin, Michael and Sarah will discuss Climate Change and its impact to Australia, and what decisions we can make to help the country adapt to this uncertain future in their talk, “A supercharged climate: Grand challenges of adaptation in Australia”.
